The Latest Update From
Sabattus Antique Mall
Two Years and Counting
|
|
Monthly Outdoor
Flea Market
|
|
November 6, 2004 will mark two years of
business for the Sabattus Antique Mall. This next year
should bring increased business with the opening of the new turnpike
exit number 86 in Sabattus. On November 12, we will be a 2 short
miles from the exit. So check out the map and directions page.
Even with increased business, some things
will stay the same, like how nice the shop is. It is well lit,
clean and everything is displayed very nicely. So if you are
looking for a change of pace from the usual dark and hard to get around
in antique shop, then SAM is the place for you. We are
handicapped accessible, with a ramp outside and nice wide aisles inside.
We almost always have oldies music playing, making it a nice relaxing
place to be. We have many customers who visit weekly, just so they
can walk around and relax.
Though the inventory changes regularly, we
always have a selection of books (from comic books, old Maine authors,
contemporary authors, biographies and cookbooks), coins, pottery, glass,
artwork, records, furniture, kitchen collectibles, linens, postcards,
stamps, jewelry and lots of “one of a kind items”.
So, if you haven’t been to SAM, then this
could be the time to make a trip to Sabattus. From north or south,
we are easy to reach.

1 Year Anniversary
|
|
It has been interesting to watch how things
have changed during this past year.
Dealers have moved around, the floor plan has changed several
times and a lot of merchandise has come and gone.
Because the merchandise is forever changing, you never know what
treasure you might find.
But the thing that never changes is how nice
the shop is. It is well light, clean and everything is displayed so
nicely. So if you are
looking for a change of pace from the usual dark and hard to get around
in antique shop, then SAM is the place for you.
We are handicapped accessible, with a ramp outside and nice wide
aisles inside. We
almost always have oldies music playing, making it a nice relaxing place
to be. We have many
customers who visit weekly, just so they can walk around and relax.
This summer new siding was put on the
building, greatly improving the looks on the outside, and matching the
improvements we did on the inside. The grounds were opened up and the end of the driveway has
been paved.

Historical Information Wanted
Antique building?!
|
|
I am interested in discovering more of the
history of the building and property. I want to gather as much
information about it as possible, to make a collage for display in
the shop. I have heard and seen enough, talking with people since
we bought the building, to believe that there is more to know.
Like what about the dance hall "The Blue Moon Lagoon" that was said
to exist on the same property? I am interested in photos,
postcards, newspaper ads or articles, or even a personal story related
to the building and/or its earlier operation. If you have
something to add I would love to see it! If you are not willing to
part with the item(s), I would still be interested in a copy. I am
prepared to reimburse for copying and postage or pick up the item(s).
If your contribution is used to display I will be sure to credit your
name as the source. Please contact me
if you can help.

From a Roller Skating Rink to
an Antique Mall
Promoting a new venture in the realm of age
|
|
Like a lot of people that collect old things, the
hobby turns into something more. This web page is the beginning of the more,
for Mona Maillet; her pastime has turned into a business. In the fall of 2000
an old vacant building, well known to the folks in the area, was put up for
sale. The 50 by 100-foot structure, built in 1940 as a roller skating rink,
sits on a much-traveled road and is surrounded by the marshland across the
road from Long Beach on Sabattus Lake.
Early picture
of building
Mona was quick to realize that this was an
opportunity worth seizing. She has been dealing in antiques for over 5
years, renting space in other group shops, and had her eye on this
"old" building as a great location to make a group shop for
antiques and collectibles. Now after months of planning and initial
cleanup work to the building, the construction necessary to make the
building usable and up to today’s codes, is slated to start early this
spring. No date has been circled on the calendar for a Grand Opening.
But at this point, it is hoped that by this summer it will be ready to
open the doors to the public.
So that brings us to one of the reasons for
publishing this web page. We need to have dealers ready to sell their
merchandise in the newest antiques group shop in the state. Are you an
antiques and collectibles dealer? If so maybe you would like to find out
more about this new opportunity to rent space and sell your merchandise
at the Sabattus Antique Mall. We are located on Route 126 (Sabattus
Road), in the central part of Maine. We are just outside of Lewiston and
are an easy drive from Auburn, Bath, Brunswick, Freeport and Augusta.
And with work starting on a new turnpike exit in Sabattus, we will, by
2003, be easily accessible from the Maine Turnpike.
Please look at the rest of the information
provided on these pages. If you have an interest in being a part of the
new Sabattus Antique Mall, fill out the Registration Form on the
Dealer
Information page and submit it to us. We will then send to you our
guidelines and a rental agreement.
If you are not a dealer, that's okay, we also
need people who just love old things and want to add to their
collections. We want to make Sabattus Antique Mall a great place to shop
and a great place for our dealers too. We will be working hard to get a
very diverse group of dealers who offer quality antiques, covering a
wide range of interests.

ATTENTION
DEALERS:
There are still rental spaces available!
|
We could use dealers
who sell furniture, country primitives, sporting or hunting goods,
tools, art pottery and the unique or unusual.
If you are looking for a
home to set up your merchandise, then SAM could be the place for you.
We provide a staff of honest, friendly and helpful personnel.
We have a cart/dolly for the dealers to use to move merchandise.
All sales are kept track of on the computer and at anytime
dealers can ask to know what their recent sales have been.
Dealers are given a check and a report of their sales bi-monthly,
and dealers also receive quarterly reports with sales totals.
So check out the dealer
info page, which has a floor plan of the building and descriptions
and costs for all spaces. Then
come and check us out for yourself.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then
these pictures should say it all.
